Liverpool, pls try harder next time!

I remember that Sir Alex Ferguson once said that 83 points are required to win the EPL title. Liverpool is now at 83 points with a game to spare but still surrendered the title to Manchester United.

Just like what Benitez said:“We have 83 points and that would have been enough to win the tile on six other occasions since the premier league started”. This shows how close Liverpool is just about to be crowned English champion again this season.

Liverpool scoring record has been fantastic this season. They score the most goals in premier league and their defensive record is at 3rd place after Chelsea and Man Utd. The playing style of Liverpool this season has been most entertaining. 4-1 victory over Man Utd, 4-4 drew with Arsenal and 5-0 thrash of Aston Villa just added evidences into it. However, 3 consecutive draws in January with Stoke City, Everton and Wigan had set the path for Man Utd to climb over them.

One of the obvious reasons that Liverpool threw the towel so early is because the team is depending too much on the duo - Gerard & Torres. As what football legend Zinedine Zidane has said Gerard is the spiritual leader to Liverpool and this is very true.

Liverpool is like a different team whenever this duo did not play. Let’s look at the statistic. Liverpool was only managed to record 2 victories without Gerard & Torres featured together. Liverpool recorded 22 victories when one of the duo or both played together, 8 out of 11 draws when one of the duo or both did not feature, and the only 2 defeats Liverpool conceded this season were during Torres’ absent.

Therefore, Liverpool needs to shake away the Gerard-Torres effect and play as a real team in coming season if they really want to challenge the title.

In doing that, Liverpool has to be cautious in any transfer activities. In the past, Liverpool has been buying top class players with significant fees. Meanwhile, Man Utd seldom buys but whenever they buy they made sure they brought in the true world class players.

Look at Robbie Keane, it was an embarrassing purchase. Liverpool sold back the player to White Hart Lane with 10 million lesser compare to its purchase price. Many players who were once very top in their games came to Liverpool only to find out they were dipping in form and eventually became an average player and finally move to a much inferior clubs. Look at what had happened to Harry Kewell, Morientes, Ciise, Robbie Keane and many more you will understand what I meant.

Liverpool’s manager Rafael Benitez has been told by the board that he will be only given 20 million pound for the transfer budget in the coming season and any extra budget must come from players selling.

It’s clear that Rafael Benitez must change his transfer policy to only buy those truly world class but not top class. Look at the impact of Fernando Torres! The quality worth of every penny spent.

Play as a team not individual or you will always walk alone!

Very interesting....and it's true...a lot of teams will suffer without their two best players. Never mind, there is always next season hahaha.
