纳吉一上台,就通过EPU(Economy Planning Unit) 发出了很多很多的F级工程于马来承包商。

(Washington)

Climate Change

Today, international action against climate change is urgent and imperative. There should be no more debate on the destructive impacts due to climate change as these shall be as unequivocal reality and beyond scientific doubt.

The impacts on global economic of climate change are terrified. Countries whose economy heavily rely on agricultural production will be hit badly with the possibly of reduction in crop yields. In some African countries, for example, yields could decline by as much as 50% by 2020. As a result, the world may see price hike of food supply. The collateral effect will be political instability in third world countries where people suffer from expensive food end up in riots. Therefore climate change will precipitate what already weaken economy of these countries to the worst.

Climate change would also lead to increase water stress. Contaminated water resulted from flood not only affecting people daily life but also become the medium of pandemic diseases. The direct consequence will be increase cost of social welfare and public insurance. Not to mention that the economic losses due to damage on ecosystems, infrastructures, property and threat to life as a result of coastal flooding.

In order to mitigate climate change, we must reduce the emission of CO2 and this involves the choices of technology. Incentives shall be given by the authorities to the investors. Therefore, we can foresee that in the future more and more clean and green technology compliance products will be developed and promoted to the market. Company who do not adapt to this change of product roadmap will be outperformed and marginalized in the market.

CO2 emission quota will be tradeoff internationally. However, this measure will not abate climate change as countries that in need of bigger CO2 emission quota will trade with countries with less emission and continue to consume fossil fuel. Ethically, this is not a good practice as only rich countries consume energy as long as they pay to the poor. The effort to develop green technology will be unmotivated as well.

As for Malaysia, our palm oil export will be hit as higher environmental protection standards imposed by western countries like RSPO-Route Table on Sustainable Palm Oil. Unless Malaysia achieves the certificate or our palm oil will be boycott by the western buyers. Not only palm oil but other sectors like electronic and semiconductor manufacturing may face similar export requirements.

On the positive side, Malaysia economy could be stirred by producing plants that can be used to produce bio fuel in large scale. Private sector may invest in renewable energy development to provide clean and green technology compliance products to the market.

In retrospect, nothing has ever brought all human so close and so imperative together to combat a common problem than climate change. The United State, as the biggest CO2 emitter can no longer antagonistic in signing KYOTO protocol and should join the body soonest possible echoing Obama’s administration green policy.

Save the world by combating climate change is not something insurmountable challenge. However, world leaders and policy makers must scrupulous toward the steps and measures.
Developing countries must work hand in hand with developed countries without any prejudice and the later shall assist developing countries in term of monetary or green technology transfers.
In recent G8 summit held in Italy, the eight richest nations in the world first time have reached to a consensus to reduce worldwide emission by 50% in year 2050. Unfortunately, no concrete path has been outlined to address how this goal is to be achieved. BRIC-Brasil, Russia, India and China collaboration and cooperation must not only be confined in economic scale but also addressing climate change. Only an UNITED and UNDIVIDED world’s effort can possibly achieve victory in this war.

This is the war that will decide the destiny of our future generation.

Bravo Chua

On June 20, Bernama reported that…

Chua Says Pas-Umno Unity Talks Good For The People

PASIR PUTEH, June 20 (Bernama) -- MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek said today the proposed unity government between PAS and Umno would help stabilise the country's political situation.

He said any party could discuss the issue of unity as it would benefit the people on the whole.

"We are confident that the talks would not affect unity among the races," he told reporters here.

The idea for a unity government between PAS and Umno was mooted by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang but was opposed by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Chua said that the unity government was in line with the "1Malaysia" concept mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He refuted claims that the talks would only benefit the Malays, saying he was confident that the Barisan Nasional under the leadership of Najib would continue to practice power-sharing.

"We have been a partner in the BN since the past 52 years and we are confident that Umno is aware of its responsibility to the people of Malaysia," he said.--

One day later, the star reported that…

Chua voices anxiety over PAS’ talks on unity gov

MUAR: The unity talks between Umno and PAS will not be healthy for the country if it is aimed at forming a Malay government, deputy MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said.

He said if the talks are aimed at setting up such a government between the two Malay parties, MCA too could hold talks with the opposition parties, including the DAP.

Speaking to reporters here, he said if Umno wanted to hold the talks with PAS, it should include other component parties in Barisan Nasional.

“I have said in Kelantan recently that if Umno and PAS hold unity talks towards forming a Malay government, then the MCA too can hold talks with the opposition, not only the DAP.

“But this would not be healthy for the country, which wants to adopt the 1Malaysia concept,” Dr Chua said after a meeting with Barisan Nasional leaders from the Muar and Bakri divisions yesterday.

Dr Chua, who is the Barisan Nasional co-ordinating committee chairman, said efforts were being carried out to regain all seats lost to the Opposition in the 12th general election.

Chua travelled from Kelantan to Johor then malacca on 19/6 to 21/6 as written in his blog .Looks like Chua gave different opinions on the same issue on two different occasions. And 1 month ago Chua just speculated the possibility of himself joining opposition and now he becomes the vanguard of UMNO. Bravo Chua

GoodBye to Christiano Ronaldo

The long transfer saga has eventually come to its end. Christiano Ronaldo-CR7 finally sealed his dream move to his childhood club REAL MADRID. He joined Man Utd in year 2001 from Portugal league as an unknown teenager. Many soccer pundits have raised their eye brows when Sir Alex Ferguson cash in the money received from David Beckham’s sale on the Portuguese winger. Now it proves the deal was a great investment.

Ronaldo was purchased at £12.24m and sold at £80m. He joined the club as unknown player and left the club as the FIFA World Footballer of the year. He has won all possible trophies in English Premier League with Man Utd with 1 FIFA World Club Cup, 1 Champions League Cup, 3 English Premier League titles, 2 FA Cups. He has proven himself in England soil and is looking forward to prove himself in Spanish Liga.

As a red devil fan, I welcome his departure. Ronaldo has been expressing his desire to move to REAL MADRID since more than 1 year ago and Man Utd is right to grant his wish at this lot of money.

We must give chance to the others like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. Man Utd has been dominating English games for 3 years and we all understand that monopoly does not do any good to the games and therefore we are willingly to open up the competition by selling out our key player.

Whatsoever, Man Utd plays as a team and does not rely on individual player like Liverpool relies on Torres & Gerard, Arsenal relies on Fabregas and Chelsea relies on Frank Lampard. Certainly the departure of CR7 will cause an irreplaceable figure in the game but this will also give the opportunity to other youngsters like Nani, Tosic to shine.

Many Red Devil fans’ hearts were broken when David Beckham moved to Real Madrid 8 years ago. But soon he was forgotten after the arrival of Ronaldo. History seems repeats itself again when Ronaldo moves to the same destination and I believe he will be soon be forgotten when Man Utd keeps winning in the way they always do.

Goodbye Ronaldo! We see you in the champions league in Europe.

The Evolution of WEB 2.0 to social network

Many people may or may not aware that internet is undergoing quiet revolution on its own. The value and usability of internet has been elevated tremendously since the advent of WEB 2.0 .

What is WEB 2.0?

WEB 2.0 is the popular term for advance internet technology and application including blogs, wikis, RSS, and social book marking. It offers greater collaboration among internet users and other users, content providers and enterprises than WEB 1.0.

Many countries including Malaysia have benefited from the evolution where blog plays a major role in the making of 308 tsunami. Likewise, OBAMA has taken grassroots campaigning into the digital age by embrace WEB 2.0 and using it as a central platform of his presidency campaign. In fact, OBAMA turned WEB 2.0 into a major force in his campaign.

He utilizes the social network applications like FACEBOOK and MYSPACE to build his popularity among the youth and to promote his political view. In the past, American young voters might have been enthusiasm in campaigning but voter turnout has been poor. But Obama has been successfully turned around the trend by recorded the highest turnout in 40 years. Today, OBAMA has more than 1 mil contacts in facebook and myspace.

Communication has been always the key to winning. For Roosevet, it was radio. For the case of John F Kennedy, it was television. And for Barack Obama, it is social media.

And now we are seeing the next wave of revolution in web through TWITTER. Twitter-micro blogging on sms is gaining its popularity at huge momentum. Just yesterday, US government has urged Twitter to delay a planned maintenance outage because of the social blogging site’s use as a communications tool by Iranians following their disputed election.

Iran government has shut down other websites, cell phones, and newspapers. And twitter has become their communication tool to unfold the news to other people. Iranian people broadcast the news as what they seen in the rally and links to the photo taken at the scene. All of these are happening instantly via SMS and make it more difficult for the authority to control.

We anticipate Twitter to develop its influence to extend as blog does.

Influenza pandemic alert level 6

WHO elevated influenza pandemic alert level to 6 the highest possible alert level. Here is the definition:

Phase 6, the pandemic phase, is characterized by community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region in addition to the criteria defined in Phase 5. Designation of this phase will indicate that a global pandemic is under way.

Click here to see the definition of Phase 5.

Based on WHO statistic, 30 000 AH1N1 confirmed cases have been reported in 74 countries. Unlike the seasonal influenza, the AH1N1 virus preferentially infects the younger people. Most of the confirmed cases have been found with people under 25 years old. However, most cases of severe and fatal infection have been in adult between ages 30 to 50 years.

WHO advises that the world now is at the start of the influenza pandemic.

The world should prepare to see further spread of cases in the near future. Countries where outbreaks have peaked should prepare for second wave of infection. Countries with no infection or few cases shall remain vigilant.

WHO will continuously in close contact with vaccines manufacturer to ensure the supply of vaccines at full capacity once they are available in months to come. No restriction on travel or borders closures is recommended.

Liverpool, pls try harder next time!

I remember that Sir Alex Ferguson once said that 83 points are required to win the EPL title. Liverpool is now at 83 points with a game to spare but still surrendered the title to Manchester United.

Just like what Benitez said:“We have 83 points and that would have been enough to win the tile on six other occasions since the premier league started”. This shows how close Liverpool is just about to be crowned English champion again this season.

Liverpool scoring record has been fantastic this season. They score the most goals in premier league and their defensive record is at 3rd place after Chelsea and Man Utd. The playing style of Liverpool this season has been most entertaining. 4-1 victory over Man Utd, 4-4 drew with Arsenal and 5-0 thrash of Aston Villa just added evidences into it. However, 3 consecutive draws in January with Stoke City, Everton and Wigan had set the path for Man Utd to climb over them.

One of the obvious reasons that Liverpool threw the towel so early is because the team is depending too much on the duo - Gerard & Torres. As what football legend Zinedine Zidane has said Gerard is the spiritual leader to Liverpool and this is very true.

Liverpool is like a different team whenever this duo did not play. Let’s look at the statistic. Liverpool was only managed to record 2 victories without Gerard & Torres featured together. Liverpool recorded 22 victories when one of the duo or both played together, 8 out of 11 draws when one of the duo or both did not feature, and the only 2 defeats Liverpool conceded this season were during Torres’ absent.

Therefore, Liverpool needs to shake away the Gerard-Torres effect and play as a real team in coming season if they really want to challenge the title.

In doing that, Liverpool has to be cautious in any transfer activities. In the past, Liverpool has been buying top class players with significant fees. Meanwhile, Man Utd seldom buys but whenever they buy they made sure they brought in the true world class players.

Look at Robbie Keane, it was an embarrassing purchase. Liverpool sold back the player to White Hart Lane with 10 million lesser compare to its purchase price. Many players who were once very top in their games came to Liverpool only to find out they were dipping in form and eventually became an average player and finally move to a much inferior clubs. Look at what had happened to Harry Kewell, Morientes, Ciise, Robbie Keane and many more you will understand what I meant.

Liverpool’s manager Rafael Benitez has been told by the board that he will be only given 20 million pound for the transfer budget in the coming season and any extra budget must come from players selling.

It’s clear that Rafael Benitez must change his transfer policy to only buy those truly world class but not top class. Look at the impact of Fernando Torres! The quality worth of every penny spent.

Play as a team not individual or you will always walk alone!

Is charismatic leader an effective leader?

Leader who gains power and influence in a group because they are liked, admired, and respected are said to possess charismatic power. This charismatic power are stemming from an individual personality, physical strength, or other abilities that induce others to believe in and follow the person.

Charismatic leader always inspire awe and loyalty in their followers. These followers buy into vision of the leader and work with excitement, passion, enthusiasm toward goals set by leader.
When charismatic power is present, other powers like legitimate power, coercive power lose its significance because followers give charismatic leader the right to hold the reign of power and make the decision that define the vision and goals.

Many charismatic leaders can excite a whole group, organization or even a nation and propel it to a new height like former US president Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy. But charismatic power can have a dark side, when followers follow the leader blindly without basic cognitive ability because they think their leader knows what is best for the people. These kind of charismatic leaders are like Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein.

In fact, the moment charismatic leader has the most influence is the moment when the change is the most wanted by people. Because charismatic leaders give hopes, convinces their followers with strong tune and finally transform their followers become believers. Everyone becomes the evangelist of their leader’s vision to the others.

When charismatic power is abused by a leader, who has a mistaken or evil vision, no checks or balances exist to resist the leader directive, no matter how outrageous they may be. We all knew what had happened to Germany under Hitler and IRAQ under Saddam Hussein.

Some researchers have argued that charismatic leadership is an advantage only when a formal hierarchy of authority places some checks and balances on the power of this person. Thus, only when the power of a charismatic leader is balanced by the power of 3rd party like board of committees is the leader a force for good and someone who can stir people to work together toward common goals.

Pandemic alert still remains at 5

No further revelation on pandemic alert level by WHO. It still remains at level 5. However, more H1N1 infection cases are confirmed by laboratory test. Additional 18 new cases confirmed by US government and piling up the number to 109 confirmed human cases in total. Fortunately, total fatality remain as one died.

There is also significant increase of H1N1 infection in Mexico where the number reaches to 97 from 26 a day before. Total fatalities increases to 12 compare to 7 a day before.

Mexico’s government has advised their citizens to stay at home to help quell the spread of the flu. All public centers like restaurant, school, subway, supermarket have been shutdown as well.

There is still no restriction on travel to these infected nation imposed by WHO but people are advised not to travel to Mexico unnecessary.

H1N1- Pandemic alert lifted to 5

WHO- World Health Organization raised its pandemic alert to 5 on Wednesday. What does it mean by then?

Phase 1, no viruses circulating among animals have been reported to cause infections in humans.

Phase 2, an animal influenza virus circulating among domesticated or wild animals is known to have caused infection in humans, and is therefore considered a potential pandemic threat.

Phase 3, an animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus has caused sporadic cases or small clusters of disease in people, but has not resulted in human-to-human transmission sufficient to sustain community-level outbreaks. Limited human-to-human transmission may occur under some circumstances, for example, when there is close contact between an infected person and an unprotected caregiver. However, limited transmission under such restricted circumstances does not indicate that the virus has gained the level of transmissibility among humans necessary to cause a pandemic.

Phase 4 is characterized by verified human-to-human transmission of an animal or human-animal influenza reassortant virus able to cause “community-level outbreaks.” The ability to cause sustained disease outbreaks in a community marks a significant upwards shift in the risk for a pandemic. Any country that suspects or has verified such an event should urgently consult with WHO so that the situation can be jointly assessed and a decision made by the affected country if implementation of a rapid pandemic containment operation is warranted. Phase 4 indicates a significant increase in risk of a pandemic but does not necessarily mean that a pandemic is a forgone conclusion.

Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.

Phase 6, the pandemic phase, is characterized by community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region in addition to the criteria defined in Phase 5. Designation of this phase will indicate that a global pandemic is under way.

In the late Wednesday, first swine flu fatality outside Mexico was confirmed in US. A 23-month-old child visiting from Mexido died because of swine flu. This has caused WHO to lift the pandemic alert one level up within a day (Pandemic alert on Tuesday was 4).

Nine countries have officially reported 148 cases of swine influenza A/H1N1 infection. The United States Government has reported 91 laboratory confirmed human cases, with one death. Mexico has reported 26 confirmed human cases of infection including seven deaths.
The following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Austria (1), Canada (13), Germany (3), Israel (2), New Zealand (3), Spain (4) and the United Kingdom (5).
Neither vaccine nor cure have been developed due to the complication of H1N1.

Proton.

One Malaysia. Sound familiar???

At first I thought we are a creative nation. At least we have people who are creative enough to dispose human remains by using C4 which supposed to be used in combat.

Later I found we are just a copy cat.
One Malaysia
Does it sound familiar to you?
One world, One dream and now what...One Malaysia

“...walaupun kita fikir bila mereka hendak sekolah Cina dibantu, kita bantu, sepatutnya mereka membalas budi”

Altantuya

Altantuya-

Mukhriz.

Altantuya case is at the international arena again!

The news is published in British newspaper yesterday.

Arms deal link to death of model

A FRENCH arms company is at the centre of a deepening scandal involving the sale of three submarines, the murder of a beautiful Mongolian interpreter and the man most likely to become prime minister of Malaysia next month.

All three have been linked in a sensational sequence of revelations that has convinced many Malaysians that the woman was killed to silence her demands of a share in the rewards of the transaction.

The scandal exploded last week after the French newspaper Libération alleged that the submarines deal and the murder of Altantuya Shariibuu, 28, were connected.

A glamorous, cosmopolitan woman, Altantuya grew up in St Petersburg, spoke Russian, Chinese, Korean and English, moved in elite circles and has been dubbed “a Far Eastern Mata Hari”.
She became the mistress of a Malaysian political fixer and was allegedly trying to extort money from him at the time of her violent demise.

Two members of an elite Malaysian police unit that protects top politicians are on trial in Kuala Lumpur, accused of shooting her in the jungle and then blowing up her body with military explosives.

Azilah Hadri, 32, and Sirul Azhar Umar, 36, officers in the Special Branch, could go to the gallows if convicted of abducting and murdering Altantuya on October 19, 2006. A verdict is expected early next month.

Their trial is unfolding as Najib Razak, the country’s deputy prime minister, stands on the verge of taking over as premier after a ruling-party leadership election, due within days.
Najib was accused by a young opposition MP, Gobind Singh Deo, in parliament, of involvement in the murder. Deo was suspended by the Speaker for making the remark. The deputy prime minister has strongly denied any involvement.

Testimony in an earlier court case has established an intimate personal and financial connection between the dead woman and a close aide to Najib, who was minister of defence at the time of the submarine deal.

The aide, Abdul Razak Baginda, was acquitted by a court last November of being an accessory in the murder. He has since been working on a doctorate at Trinity College, Oxford.

Baginda admitted that the dead woman was his mistress for about a year and prosecutors said she had pestered him for money after their break-up.

Just before her death she arrived in Kuala Lumpur, accompanied by a Mongolian shaman, who was to put a curse on Baginda if he did not pay up.

Altantuya was dragged away from outside Baginda’s home by two Special Branch officers, but he was acquitted after maintaining that he never gave orders for her to be harmed.

The Libération exposé linking the murder to the shadowy world of arms contracts has embarrassed the French war-ship firm DCNS. Armaris, a firm now merged with DCNS, sold the three submarines to Malaysia in 2002 for £937m.

Attention has centred on why Armaris paid £107m to a Malaysian company called Perimekar in 2006.

Opposition leaders alleged in parliament that the payment was a “commission” for intermediaries and that Perimekar was secretly owned by Baginda. Najib replied that it was not a “commission” and that Perimekar was a “project services provider”.

Libération has alleged that Altantuya, who toured France with Baginda in a Ferrari, wining and dining at expensive restaurants, learnt of the payment. It said she was demanding $500,000 (£345,000).

DCNS has refused to comment. It is already the subject of a French judicial investigation into corrupt practices, thanks to a whistleblower who has detailed bribery and industrial espionage allegations.

Last week, efforts to contact Baginda, a self-styled political analyst, at his new home in Oxford were unsuccessful.

Najib has avoided public comment but his politically influential wife, Rosmah Mansor, told the French news agency AFP that she was “shocked” by attempts to link her husband and her to the case.

"Straight Talk" by DiGi featuring Teresa Kok

“If you are not going to do one thing, you can have thousand reasons to give of not doing so.” This is the right statement to make in response to the stand Selangor state government has taken in local government election.

Local government election represents part of a democracy system which has been deployed by many democratic countries. Malaysia federal government has abolished the local government election after the 1969 general election which ended in riot.
Hence, all local councils are appointed by ruling party in the respected states and therefore the people right of 3rd vote has been denied.

NGO and the public put high hope in the revival of the local government election in the 5 states that won by Pakatan Rakyat in last general election as it is one of the propaganda that promised by opposition prior to the election.
Unfortunately, nothing has been done one year later.

When Teresa Kok was questioned by one of the audience during “Straight Talk” this morning, she has given many reasons of why it is not being done so. She even said that after becoming the government then only she realizes that many things are actually very difficult to implement.
Does she sound familiar? Isn’t it a typical answer by BN government?
I must say that the reason why people voted opposition in last election is because people want to see the CHANGE. Of course people know it’s not easy to become a government that’s why they voted you and give you the mandate to do so.
Do not give reasons or excuses as Malaysian has enough of them in the past 52 years. If you are not going to listen to the people then be prepared to face the consequences in the coming general election.

When asked about the setup of shadow government by the Pakatan Rakyat, Teresa Kok has actually opposed the proposal in favoring the policy making shall be made as first priority during this economy recession period.
Are they any conflict or contrary between these two agendas? I was scratching my head while listening to YB’s talk. Many democratic countries have shadow government to provide better check and balance to the ruling government and yet their policy making process was not impeded at all.
If Pakatan Rakyat is ready to take over the federal government in coming general election, it must show the line up to the people to boost our confidence. Pakatan Rakyat’s ceramah might be able to attract thousands of people but can they walk the talk? Do not rely on sweet talking too much because people might be deceived once but not twice.

Pakatan Rakat’s leaders must show they are totally different from the BN leaders by walking the talk.

People want to see a truly effective government but not another BN-like government.
